This isn't like most old Shelby Mustangs (Repost - can anyone tell if it's authentic?)

Despite being a GT350 and not the legendary GT500, this 1969 Shelby Mustang looks to be not only authentic, but totally unrestored. I’m absolutely no expert, but that’s my thinking. The 350s are also rarer than the 500s. Quite a find if you ask me.

I’m reposting because I did some research, and if this thing is authentic it’s one of only a little over 600 ‘69 Shelby GT350s, and one of only ten in this color. Or it could be a very good tribute. These stickers were in the windows if they help you sleuths.

I love this body style, I love the GT350, and finally I love that paint color more than any other on any Mustang. Needless to say I love that Shelby GT350

Wow! I didn’t realize you could still get a 350 in ‘69. The later Shelby cars like this are my favorites.

The fact that it’s unrestored makes it even better. Seeing something that old and original still looking so good is really something to see in person. My stepdad still owns the ‘70 442 he bought brand new in 1969. The drive train is all race stuff (still has the original 350 and Muncie tho!) but the body, paint, upholster and trim is all original and unrestored.

350s are better no? The 500s are good for drags and straight line, but if you’re getting a Shelby with all the handling goodies you might as well get a package that’s more Trans Am than NHRA.

Maybe it's cos I'm from Yurop...

The names are fairly arbitrary. In fact, “350" and “500" are not known to mean anything of significance. Shelby just thought they sounded cool.

OK here’s what I just read. all 1970 GT350's were actually left over 69's that had their VIN’s legitimately changed to 1970 model years.

Spoiler and the missing black stripes are 1970 - always.

Some 1969's had the spoiler though from the factory, it became standard later in the model year.

Even more so, a lot of people added them because, well they look cool.

I would hazard a guess this is a real one that has an added spoiler or was a late model build for 69.

If someone fakes a Shelby, they normal turn them into big block 500's.

This should have a 351W in it.

Oh, one other thing that makes me say “real” is the tail lights.

The Shelby ones are completely different from the “normal” Mustangs.

These are at least Shelby lights.

For that rare of Shelby, the lack of an SAAC sticker is my first “Hmmm...”, but it’s a very, very mild “Hmmm...”

The problem is you can’t really go off of parts, because ALL Shelby parts are able to be bought from reproduction suppliers. VIN would really be the only indicator. And it’s $4 to run a plate now -_-

Yeah, but from what I understand the GT350 was a smallblock and the GT500 was a bigblock. Not sure if that still carried over to the later cars, but that's the distinction I was thinking of :)

You’re right. When the GT350 came out, it used the 289 whereas the GT500 used the 428. Then, the GT350 moved on to the 351 in 1969. The GT500 stuck with the 428 until 1970 when production ceased.
